Siltbreeze Is Back

While I have less interest in noise noodling these days (or mainly pretentious “free” folk noodling, which is taking the worst elements of hipsters and hippies and making a shit sandwich out of them), I have a lot of fondness for Siltbreeze (fave bands, pictured Monkey 101, Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, Yips, and brand new Times New Viking). I like noisy noodling, just more contained I guess. The Siltbreeze nights at The Khyber were a formative part of my 20s and an element of them is missing in the local music scene today, where everyone’s very tentative and cool, or tentative about being cool. People also confuse making challenging or unusual music with just being an asshole. For the record, the SB crew were some of the kindest people I’ve ever met, brutally honest and wickedly funny, but good on the inside. Being an asshole doesn’t make you punk rock or revolutionary. You’re just a fucking asshole.
My message is belated, but I thought it was worth noting.

i assume you’ve found the wickedly germane siltblog?

Bryan and anyone else: Besides the bands I mentioned in my blog post, The Tard and Furthered comp is a good place to start. It’s hard to recommend much since a lot of the catalog is out of print from the looks of the discog page.

It’s good to see TJ make it from fanzine world into today’s internet. I love how he pretends to be different characters. Maria should take note of the alleged Sarah Duncan of Cherry Coke. The mystery’s solved I guess? No big surprise there.

girl from debstersblog here. i izz back in a new configuration. i couldnt figure out my old username. donno know if you remember me?

anyway, i want to say that i enjoy this post because you call out those asshole hipsters on their snarky behavior. well done! that was supposed to be a premise in a recent article of mine, but it was whittled down so much there ended up being no premise at all. so an international community of asshole hipster- faux musicians ended up mocking it on the comments page. ah, such is the circle of life.

in other news, i’m probably movin’ to philly soon, but im disastrously unemployed. perhaps i’ll bitch about it now in my blog?

    keep it comin yo!

This is totally not a thoughful comment, but every time that album cover comes up I picture a monkey asking another monkey if she ever gets “that not so French feeling.”
    I love monkeys.
